Something bold!

How long have you been printing?

2002, when I started studying printmaking in college.

Describe your first encounter with letterpress

I took a workshop with Armina Ghazaryan at the Industriemuseum in Ghent, Belgium.

Where did you learn?

Armina sent me to Niels Goovaerts at Atelier T (Bierbeek, Belgium), and I was immediately blown away by his studio. I did a couple of workshops, met Thomas Gravemaeker, entered their master-student letterpress program, and suddenly... there was a Korrex in my studio.

Who was your most influential teacher?

Thomas Gravemaker

What super power would you like to have?

To stop time!

Do you prefer to work alone or with others?

Both. I do love working alone, but good company gives me energy as well.

What do you most value in your friends?

Being there, unconditionally.

When do your best ideas occur to you?

In the shower or when I'm drawing.

If you were to die and come back as a typeface, which would it be?

Something bold!

What tool do you use more often than any other?

A conté dip pen and Chinese ink.

What books are currently on your nightstand?

'I used to have a plan' by Alessandra Olanow.

If you could study with any printer throughout history, who would it be?

Roger Vandaele, a Belgian master screenprinter who collaborates with leading contemporary artists.

If you have your own shop, what equipment do you own?

Yes, since last year! Two screenprinting tables, a vacuum exposure unit, a Korrex Nürnberg, two type cabinets, a Prägnant foil-blocking press, a book press,...

If you could change one thing about your shop, what would it be?

I would expand! the studio at the back (and install folding glass doors at the front).

When and where are you the happiest?

When I have time and space.

What is your greatest fear/worry?

Not being good enough.

What do you think is useful about what you make?

It keeps me mentally healthy :)

What’s your day job?

I'm still figuring that part out.

Do you use any other techniques or media besides letterpress?

Screenprinting! and bookbinding.
