Nothing useful at all

How long have you been printing?

1981 – I think. Longer ago than I care to remember...

Where did you learn?

At René Treumann’s workshop in Amsterdam

What super power would you like to have?

Teleportation would be very nice. I like travelling, but hate flying.

Do you prefer to work alone or with others?

A bit of both, ideally. Most often I work alone, which suits me fine. But I’m very happy that over the years, I’ve met and worked with a lot of other printers.

When do your best ideas occur to you?

Usually immediately after I finish a job…

What tool do you use more often than any other?

My Mac, I’m afraid. But I’m also quite fond of the Japanese angular ruler I discovered only recently. Very convenient!

If you have your own shop, what equipment do you own?

I have a Vandercook SP15, a big Krause handpress and a small Hohner Hobo (a platen press). Four of five type cabinets and lots of nice woodtype as well.

If you could change one thing about your shop, what would it be?

Make it (at least) twice as big

What is your greatest fear/worry?

Can't think of anything. I lead a charmed life...

What do you think is useful about what you make?

Nothing at all – and I firmly intend to keep it that way.

What’s your day job?

I’m a book designer.
